Roadways in many New Orleans neighborhoods were inundated with flooding Wednesday after heavy rain poured down on the metro area, causing ponding on streets and forcing residents to to wade through water and move their vehicles to higher ground.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Slidell issued a flash flooding emergency for the city of New Orleans, saying a line of storms was continuing to move across the area and concerns for flash flooding were ongoing. They encouraged residents not to drive on roads.

1220PM: New Orleans metro areas… DO NOT DRIVE right now! A FF Emergency is in effect for the city and there is more rain on the way from the Southwest! Numerous roads across the metro are flooded/impassable. Again, please do not drive if at all possible right now. #mswx #lawx pic.twitter.com/9UzTLQhrDR
