Why Is This Keto Hot Chocolate So Tasty?

  • Fast. Make this low carb hot chocolate recipe in under 30 minutes.
  • Easy. A simple pour and cook stovetop recipe.
  • Keto. Only 5 net carbs per serving.
  • Gluten-Free. A naturally gluten-free recipe.
  • Delicious. Incredibly rich with just a hint of spice.

My favorite part about this Keto Hot Chocolate recipe is that it's healthy, low-carb, and gluten-free. That's right, a super-rich and decadent chocolate dessert is a keto-friendly, low carb treat that won't kick you out of ketosis. It's nice to be able to curb that sweet tooth with such a delicious recipe such as this one.

I know a lot of people that struggle with finding healthy and allergy-friendly desserts that don't take forever to prepare. Not to mention, they usually require expensive and difficult to find ingredients that make it just feel not worth the effort. Keto Hot Chocolate is super easy to make and isn't expensive either.

Can You Have Cocoa On A Keto Diet?

When it is cold outside and you're craving something sweet, there's nothing better than a hot cup of cocoa. Unfortunately, those little premade packages that you tear open and stir into warm milk aren't the lowest in carbs (or all that delicious in my opinion).

That's what compelled me to make a low-carb version. So yes, you can have cocoa on a keto diet, but not just any hot cocoa recipe.

Which Chocolate Is Best For Keto?

With the growing popularity in low carb eating, there has been a surge in the options you have for finding a delicious keto friendly chocolate. The two most important things to remember are:

  1. They need to be sugar free
  2. The darker the chocolate, the lower the carb count will be.

Here are a few of my favorite keto chocolate options that work well in this Keto Hot Chocolate Recipe:

Why Does This Keto Hot Chocolate Look Different?

That's because it's sipping chocolate. I'm sure you're thinking, "What in the world is sipping chocolate?!" Mexican Sipping Chocolate is gold. If you're used to hot chocolate in the United States, this is not the same thing.

It's the same idea, however, this is much richer and usually has a spice to it. It's only meant for sipping as a creamy delight, not to guzzle down. Mexican Sipping Chocolate is thicker than hot chocolate and is more of a dessert than it is a drink--and of course, it's Keto!

Ingredients You'll Need

How to Make This Keto Hot Chocolate Recipe

  1. Place almond milk, heavy whipping cream, Truvia, and chocolate squares in a saucepan and heat on medium-low heat. Stir frequently and do not allow the mixture to come to a rolling boil.
  2. Once the chocolate is melted and the mixture is heated through, remove from heat and stir in cinnamon, cayenne pepper and vanilla extract. Pour into demitasse cups to serve.
  3. This is a very rich, sipping chocolate, not a hot chocolate to guzzle down.

Keto Hot Chocolate Variations | Mix-In Options

There are so many ways to make Keto Hot Chocolate. I enjoy mine with cinnamon and cayenne. Everyone likes it differently, just like everyone has a specific way they drink their coffee. Here are a couple of other ways you can prepare your Keto Hot Chocolate.

  1. Peppermint Hot Chocolate: Omit Cinnamon, Cayenne and Vanilla extract. Add 1 teaspoon Peppermint extract.
  2. Chocolate Orange Cups: Omit Cinnamon, Cayenne and Vanilla extract. Add 1 teaspoon Orange extract.

How Long Does It Last?

Unlike traditional hot chocolate, you can double the recipe to save some for later.

To reheat, simply add a little extra almond milk and bring it to the desired temperature over low heat in a saucepan.
