With the MLB Draft over and the trade deadline creeping up, now is a great time to update the New York Mets’ top prospect list. Per usual, I planned on doing 30 and kept on going. Hoping this will be a useful tool over the next few days, as the Mets will likely make a few trades to improve the major league team.
This list was made while Christian Scott was healthy and assumed he would break the 50-innings threshold before it posted (he’s at 47 1/3 innings before hitting the IL).

Injuries Suck
I left off players who missed all or most of the 2024 season due to injury and wouldn’t have been considered for the top 20. Of note for injured players on the list: Baez recently had knee surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
- RHP Robert Dominguez – The hard thrower hasn’t pitched in a game since 2021, though he was recently throwing bullpens.
- RHP Raimon Gomez – Another fireballer but hasn’t pitched much. Gomez pitched only seven innings last year and hasn’t pitched yet in 2024. He is currently throwing, too.
- RHP Calvin Ziegler – The 2021 second-round pick looked great in two starts this season before Tommy John surgery ended it early.
- LHP Nate Lavender – Just as he was primed to make it to the majors, the lefty got the bad news he needed TJS.
- LHP Luis R. Rodriguez – A promising lefty who has not thrown a pitch in 2024.
- INF José Peroza – The infielder played in 17 games earlier this season before his injury. He returned to action as I was finishing this article on July 25 with a walk-off homer for the FCL Mets.
Trade Deadline Approaching
At this point, it’s clear that the Mets will make at least a few additions to the major league squad via trades before the July 30 deadline. It seems likely the Mets will add at least one bullpen arm and a depth bat and should probably target a starter following the Christian Scott injury. The Mets have the prospect pieces to fill their MLB needs in what has become a farm system with pretty good depth.
I would assume the Mets hold onto the top four on this list due to a combination of injuries to Gilbert and Williams and then the performance/proximity to the big leagues for Sproat and Clifford. After that, depending on the player the Mets are acquiring, I could see any prospect as fair game. Brett Baty isn’t on this list, but you have to imagine he’s also a player teams ask about in negotiations. Many organizations with strong hitting development would like to get a player of Baty’s capabilities.
When all is said and done, I believe the Mets will trade multiple players from outside the top 10 of this list to get the players they want to make a playoff run.
