A sustainable solution to Werribee Zoo's unique combination of needs—sourcing large amounts of materials for extensive fencing around the perimeter and internal paddocks that can withstand the unmatched strength of the elephant occupants—has been implemented. The lift cabling recycled from the Melbourne Arts Precinct Project meets the unique structural requirements posed by elephants and gives a second life to used building products, cutting down on construction waste. This collaboration between project resources is a great initiative that Codus are proud to be a part of. Well done, Development Victoria! This project has also retained thousands of cubic tonnes of excavated soil on site to be reused and repurposed within the elephant enclosure and the wider zoo precinct.Codus team: Project Director Liz Haksever & Project Lead Sarah Stevenson.#Sustainability #Codus #BuildingPossibility #NoSurprises #PossibleWithUs #BuildWithUs #BuildingSurveyor #BuildingSurveying #RBS #RelevantBuildingSurveyor #BuildingCertifier #BuildingRegulations #Consultants #BuildingConsultants #BuildingAct #Regulations #Compliance #BuildingCompliance #BuildingCode #BCA #NCC #Architecture #ArchDaily #Design #Development #Building #Construction #Australia #Melbourne #Victoria

Did you know i-Tree Tools has a Research Suite that offers peer-reviewed models to analyze the benefits of trees and other landscape attributes and assist in forest advocacy and ecosystem health? One of these products is i-Tree Cool Air, which maps the #urbanheatisland effect and quantifies the cooling effects of the urban canopy. The results can be used for prioritizing tree planting locations, understanding the impact of land-use on extreme heat, and as supporting data in environmental justice initiatives. Learn more from i-Tree Tools team member- Jay Heppler- from this presentation for the Beyond Trees Network!#iTree #environment #treeplanting #urbanforestry #environmentaljustice

NativState delivers! with high-quality forest-based carbon credits! So far, we've verified and sold carbon credits on approximately 18,000 acres of sustainably managed forestland across southern Arkansas, generating additional income for family forest landowners through the creation of an estimated 1,500,000 carbon credits over the next twenty years. https://hubs.li/Q02Hv2s60

"We let ourselves be surprised [by nature] instead of wanting to control every square metre.” - Esther Blom, Director of ARK🐎 The Millingerwaard is an area in The Netherlands with a long tradition of intensive agricultural use and degraded ecosystems. 35 years ago, ARK Rewilding stepped in with a vision to give natural processes their space and restore river dynamics. We had the privilege to visit the Millingerwaard and talk to ARK about their 4 decades-long project there during our global learning summit last April, which brought together Commonland's partners from over 20 landscapes worldwide.🐝 We learnt the following insights about rewilding during our visit:1. Take a step back. Nature has an incredible capacity to regenerate itself and create harmonious systems. Sometimes, the best we can do is to sit back and watch.2. Start small, but think big. ARK began as a small pilot of 3 hectares, and now they are working to rewild 7 diverse areas in the Netherlands.3. Nature is continuously developing. Nature is never fixed, but dynamic, flexible and constantly evolving. It's crucial to understand this when working with nature.4. Work with the local community. From the beginning, ARK made sure to establish a strong connection with the local community - working collaboratively is key for long-term restoration success.📖 Read the blog to find out more about how rewilding can spark a transformative shift in the way we think and do nature conservation: https://ow.ly/iq8E50Sfoep#Rewilding #LandscapeRestoration #Biodiversity #Regeneration #Conservation

Does Bob the Builder know how to build a sanctuary for 3,000 birds? Likely not. 😂No university teaches you the formula for that. But a team of different types of experts worked on a solution for building Bird Paradise, pooling together their skills, expertise and experience. Read this story from the new Building and Construction Authority campaign my team worked on to find out how the Mandai wonderland was born. You can watch Chua Enlai ask many, many questions at Bird Paradise to discover the answer too: https://lnkd.in/g3hyJWha?

👉 Patron and sponsor of the fifth afforestation action was BV Business Group, which as a socially responsible group of companies always recognizes the commitment to the revitalization of the green belt above our city and helped in the procurement of seedlings and actively participated in afforestation.🌲 BV Business Group employees took an active part in the planting together with their children. 👶👧🧒⛏️On December 3rd, the fifth consecutive reforestation action was held on the Bair hill, organized by the citizen initiative Zelen Bair and the Center for European Development and Integration.🌲In this year's action, 50 participants of all ages planted 500 evergreen seedlings of black pine on the stretch above the church of St. Forty Martyrs in the Krkardash area.🌲In the past 4 years, more than 1000 seedlings were planted, some of which have already adapted and are greening the space. With today's action, the gaps in the new forest belt that we are creating were replaced and filled, and the afforestation expanded in the part of the slope below the tutors.🌲 The main goal of the initiative, which started in 2019 as a civil action supported by Forum-CSRD / Forum-CSID, is the restoration of the burnt green belt that will lead to the improvement of ambient air quality, mitigating the effects of climate change and creating a new space for recreation of Bitolian people.🌲Additional significance is given to the action by the fact that every year the youngest who are part of the action with their parents learn about nature and environmental protection and develop the habit and awareness of the need to plant and protect trees and forests.

🌍 Happy Earth Day! 🌱 Today, as we reflect on our collective responsibility to our planet, let's remember that it's not all doom and gloom. There are countless bright spots illuminating the path toward sustainable stewardship of the Earth. One example is the increasing utilization of mass timber in construction projects worldwide. This innovative method not only creates stunning architectural wonders but also plays a crucial role in combating climate change. By harnessing already captured carbon in timber, we're not just building structures; we're building a greener, more sustainable future. Moreover, sustainable forestry practices in the United States have reached an all-time high. From softwoods to hardwoods, we're seeing a concerted effort to manage our forests responsibly. Through education and advocacy, we're fostering a deeper appreciation for timber and its vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. By using timber in a myriad of ways, we're demonstrating our commitment to preserving and valuing our timberlands. This Earth Day, let's celebrate these accomplishments and recommit ourselves to protecting and cherishing our planet for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference! 🌳💚 #EarthDay #Sustainability #MassTimber #Forestry #ClimateActionhttps://lnkd.in/efa4QpJn
